5) Schladming
As of spring 2009 the region Schladming-Dachstein offers 20 NEW Mountain Bike tracks, which have been designed by local mountain bikers. Together with the 3 downhill runs on Planai and the Dirt Park in Schladming, there are 930 cycling kilometres and 25,000 metres in height to be conquered and topped off with unusual tourism perks, for example hotels specifically designed for bikers.
Nearest Airport: Salzburg is 1hr's drive
Schladming has a nice traditional feel and does not seem too overdeveloped but still offers plenty in the way of amenities.

The main Planai lift takes you to the middle station or to the top of the hill.
DOWNHILL
There are a few runs to choose from, the longest - permanent downhill course located on
the Schladming Planai offers a contrast to the tranquil cycling tracks.
The world mountain bike elite stop at Planai each year as part of the
UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
The trails are mostly in the woods and as such the soil retains some moisture making for great loamy conditions with plenty of roots.
CROSS-COUNTRY
The whole area has a total of 930 sign posted biking kilometres and 48 tours
in all difficulty levels to be cycled in this tourism region. From the
river track, the Ennsradweg, to the challenging mountain bike tours at
various altitudes.There are 20 new
routes have also been tracked using GPS – the data can be downloaded at from this website.
Maps are also available, which have been specifically designed to include each individual track on its own map.

2010-04-14 19:09:09 | Bike Spud - Schladming lift UpdateThe Planai, the lift access to the famous world cup downhill course is having a major refit, so it closed from now through to Autumn, but the good news is the Golden Jet lift is running instead, which takes you to up slightly to the right of the start. You can then free wheel the 500m across to it, so dont panic, you can still get the mad schladming adrenaline fix, just a different uplift all this summer.
