12) Métabief
Métabief is located 75 km south of Besancon, 20 km south of Pontarlier and is just 5 km north west of the Swiss border, with Geneva airport only 90 km away making it an easy destination to reach.
Métabief is a quiet country town with some great trails ranging from easy through to advanced.. The resort has made real efforts to make mountain biking a popular past time here, an effort which has paid off with some great trails on its rocky terrain.

DOWNHILL
The classic downhill run here is gear fun; it is graded red with pretty high overall speed. There is even a speed trap on the fasted stretch so you can see your maximum velocity. There are three new trails, from green through to black completing Métabief's offer to all abilities.
CROSS-COUNTRY
For the Cross Country rider there are a few mapped out tours which are predominantly descending
with some short sharp climbs and flatter traversing sections. That is
of course if you opt for the lift to the top; if not then the rides are
far more challenging. The four routes are graded green, blue, red and
black. A further 150 km of routes are available in the area, but you
will need a map for these.
FREERIDE
There are three freeride routes on the hill which are more technically
challenging than the downhill courses as the two black runs are steep
and over rocky and often slippy ground. The red route contains more
man made obstacles but ultimately these are more technical terrain
trails than stunt packed freeride routes.
