16) Val d'Allos

Val d'Allos is split into three small Alpine villages - 1400, 1500 and 1800.  For a mountain bike holiday, you will benefit from basing yourself in the lower village. The resort has good lift access up to all the trails and you can finish your days riding with a longer descent back down to the village.

The mountain resort borders the edge of the Mercantour National Park and is in a very stunning part of the southern Alps. All in all Val d'Allos is a great family & beginner resort with a wonderful climate and beautiful surroundings.

The nearest airport is Nice, just over 120 Km away.

DOWNHILL
With eight Downhill runs there is enough riding in Val d'Allos for all the 'family'.
From the summit of Le GrosrnTapi, at 2371m, all the way back down to 1400m, is just under 100m of descending.  None of the trails are very difficult and the resort is a good place to learn downhill mountain biking and get to grips with bike control skills without the braking bumps, queues and intimidation of faster riders at some of the more popular resorts.

FREERIDE
Val d'Allos is still developing its freeride.

CROSS-COUNTRY
During the summer in Val d'Allos you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine and there is a wealth of good singletrack around the resort and a great all-round mountain bike resort.

From the top of the Bertrand chairlift you have a choice of three blue trails - for total novices, there is the Champons green route.

For more advanced routes, use the telesiege up to the top of Gros Tapi. There is the Gros Tapi, a not to technical trail that will take you right back down to the bottom.

The marked mountain bike routes routes are all quite short though and intermediate riders and above will soon have them covered.  Any routes within the national park are out of bounds.

 Summer Lifts Open
