4) Chatel - Portes du Soleil
More than just a 'freeride' park, Chatel now has it all - just before you reach the Swiss border, you come upon Châtel, a welcoming alpine resort, nestling in a valley of the Portes du Soleil mountains.
Chatel have been working on making their resort the No.1 bike park in the Portes du Soleil and have now made the 'Linga' side of the valley a place for all riders.
Nearest Airport: Geneva is just over an hour away.
Chatel offers a great BikePark with lots of fun trails with some great views to accompany the trails once you get up the mountain. The terrain is a mixture of pistes and woods and most of the ground is quite earthy so can be hardpacked when it's dry and slick and muddy after rainfall.

DOWNHILL
The Linga area of Chatel far outweighs the original runs at Super Chatel. The Linga BikePark now has 15 different trails from beginner through to advanced. Chatel Bike Park has also become a venue of the IXS European Downhill Cup, with a race normally held late July.
CROSS-COUNTRY
There are no specific Cross Country routes in the BikePark, but many of the easier blue runs are pretty straight forward and good fun to hit a few times.
FREERIDE
There is quite a bit of freeride in Chatel - there is a huge course they use for the annual Chatel Mountain Style competition but also they have: 1 4X course, 6 areas of NorthShore (wood), 1'Face' Freeride (for pros
only!!), 1 kids park, 2 pump tracks and a 'Drop Zone'.

When in Chatel check out the Passports du Soleil at the start of July, a huge fun MTB event. Also on offer is the "Fantasticable" at the top of Pre la Joux, a zip wire ride which takes you across the valley from mountain to mountain of speeds over 50mph.
