France
8) Les Arcs
Les Arcs is like many other French resorts and is split up into several different villages/towns - Bourg St Maurice is the gateway at the bottom of the valley.
Arc 1600 is directly above Bourg, then, as you traverse the mountain south from here you come to Arc 1800 followed by Peisey/Vallandry. Arc 1950 and 2000 are situated in the next valley to the east. During the summer months Bourg is the busiest town. There is always something going on and the high street and surrounding bars are generally pretty busy.
The nearest airport to Les Arcs: Lyon.

DOWNHILL
There are 2 purpose built downhill courses found at Arc 1800 and 2000 - both are great fun to ride for all levels. There are also countless trails through the
forests (advised to get a guide), many finish up or down the valley and may require a pedal to
get back to the funicular but are more than worth it.
There is also the fantastic Black Eight trail, which runs from the top of the funicular at Arc 1600 back to the bottom. The funicular takes about 10 minutes departs every half hour... this gives you 20 minutes to get down - which is 'do-able' but you can not hang around!
CROSS-COUNTRY
Whilst there is a variety of trail difficulties available it is
certainly towards the harder end of the spectrum where Les Arcs
excels. Above the treeline everything is very open and rocky with a good
mixture of fast and slower technical trails. Below the treeline the
trails tend to be a bit more loamy with some steeper sections to
contend with. The forests below 1800 m, running from below Arc 2000 all the way round
to Peisey, is littered with trails that criss -cross each other
allowing for many variations
FREERIDE
Les Arcs is still developing its freeride sector.
