The yearly bike festival at Willingen is a huge event and the whole town goes bike mad with spectators lining the courses for the various events held on the former World Cup slopes. Willingen can be damp in the summer but the trails hold up well in the wet making them good all weather runs.
DOWNHILL
The Downhill course was
built for the UCI World Cup in 2005 and has hosted 2 rounds over
subsequent years. It was unique on the circuit, being almost 100%
manmade; with huge jumps and boulder fields it can be rolled down
without too much bother, but to hit the fast lines does require some
special skills.
Any
rider with some downhill experience will be able to roll most of
the trail and with time, try hitting some of the many big gaps
and jumps.
FREERIDE
The freeride trail is well suited
to all levels of rider with plenty of smooth flowing
trail and berms, tabletops and small drops. The 4X trail is another track
constructed for the World Cup and it features some fantastic straights
including one huge 50ft gap jump, big berms and plenty of rollable
jumps. There is also a small training trails at the foot of the hill,
much like a small BMX track it is good for practising the skills
required on the trails, aswell as being great fun for the kids.
CROSS-COUNTRY
With Willingen hosting rounds of the World Cup, the area is good for Cross-Country with some great gravity-assisted trails. The trails and routes heading out from the town through the
Sauerland region are vast. With downloadable GPS tracklogs you
can set about exploring this luscious region. (bike-arena.dewebsite
