8) Winterberg

Germany's most popular freeride park, Winterberg is a busy resort with some great trails. The town of Winterberg is in the Sauerland area. 

Many steps have been taken to ensure that tourists continue to visit the region with the development of some excellent summer riding facilities.  The town of Winterberg is quite spread out and you may have a short cycle to the lifts.

Winterberg is a low level resort and the region has suffered poor winter snowfalls over the past years - a bonus for the avid mountain biker as they have really taken to developing the summer season with loads of bike trails and features crammed into the small hill.  With a looked after set of trails on a shorter hill, this resort really does let you spend more time on  your bike! 

The nearest airport is Cologne.

DOWNHILL
The BikePark has really only one downhill course which is made up with rock gardens, drops, jumps and drifty turns.  All the other routes are gravity fed and intended for any rider.

FREERIDE
Winterberg has it all for freeriders, with a 'free cros's course and a northshore trail running from the top to the bottom of the hill.  There is also the fun ride trail, with all manner of road gaps, step ups, berms and wallrides as well as a 4X track and the slopestyle course, which is almost a mini version of Whistler's Boneyard.

CROSS-COUNTRY
There are no Cross Country routes in the Winterberg bikepark itself but the trails and routes heading our from the town through the Sauerland region are expansive.  With downloadable GPS tracklogs you can set about exploring this luscious region.
