8) Sauze d'Oulx
Sauze d'Oulx is a resort located in the Piemonte region of the Italian Alps. Sauze d'Oulx itself is quite a small resort, but it has a large number of bars and restaurants.
With good, quick access to the trails, this is great riding in a small area. 2 lifts take you up from the village, the majority of the trails start at the top of the first lift. There are 2 further lifts being adapted for bikes to link Sauze to Sestrier. Sauze d'Oulx has beautiful flowing trails on mellow gradients making this a fun spot for all riders of all abilities.

The trails here are beautifully sculpted, utilising natural terrain but with man-made features to enhance flow, maintain rhythm and link the sections. Floaty jumps and northshore sections are used to exploit the natural terrain to the fullest. There are plans to link this resort by lift to nearby Sestriere, opening up more trails. The gradients are all fairly gentle so you won't be hauling on the brakes and pumping up your arms whilst still maintaining a good fast speed down the mountain.
For an easy flowing, well crafted run which includes a 360 degrees berm around a crater, take the Karamel trail from the first lift. For a more difficult ride, take the Sportinia Express trail and halfway down peel off onto the Black Gruiz section, a 1 1/2 km black graded steep, rocky and technical affair.
DOWNHILL
There is no
specific Downhill course. A long travel Downhill bike may be overkill for the
trails, but despite this, you will still have a blast as they are all
downhill, fast and flowing.
FREERIDE
There is a Freeride
area at the base of the Sportinia lift and vairous obstacles are well
placed around the park on the trails. All the trails here could be
tagged as Freeride, due to the fact that they are natural downhills
that have had man-made features constructed to help the flow and throw
in a little air time.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Cross-Country riders should take a look at the local website (sauzemtb.it), click on
cartine & itinerari, for a couple of suggested loops. The bikepark
does not have any specific cross country loops, although any mountain
bike fan will love riding the trails in the bikepark which can be
comfortably ridden on an Cross Country bike.
