9) Val di Fassa
Base yourself in Canazei, a well established and popular ski resort in the Dolomites, just northwest of Marmolada, the highest point in the Dolomites at 3343 m.
The BikePark itself only contains a couple of trails, but they have also mapped out a couple of longer tours. Val di Fassa is a fun trip at present but could not really sustain more than a long weekend stay. As a stopover, as part of a longer trip, it is great and it's incredible scenery make the riding that little bit more special. Amazing mountain vistas; quiet trails with perfect loamy soil in the wooded sections but currently the only way back down to the lift is via the black run, so not good for beginners who would have to roll down the road.
Nearest airport: Balzana (80km).

DOWNHILL
There are two marked Downhills served by the
uplifts. Double U, the first, is a higher up trail and not too
difficult, making it good fun for riders of all abilities. The trail
is 3.7 km long with a height loss of 457 m and includes bermed corners
and fast singletrack on the higher slopes before going into the woods
and bringing you out at the top of the second downhill, Electric Line.
This trail, which starts at the top of the first lift, is more
difficult, being a more natural route. In the woods there are
off-camber corners, rocks, roots, drop offs and steeper sections.
These two trails can be linked to you a long downhill with a descent of
900 m. The surface is a lovely loamy soft soil that allows riders to
carve lines and drift through fast sections. Great fun! There are
another 2 lines under construction on the lower slopes.
FREERIDE
The
two Downhill courses are perfect for anyone on Freeride
bikes. The ground is still quite fresh here and as the trails do not
get the kind of punishment some of the resorts in the French Alps do,
they are more forgiving. There is a northshore area next to the ski
lift with all the usual skinnies and drops to keep you entertained at
the end of the day or between runs.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Cross County riders in the area will
need to get the map out and find their own routes as there are plenty
of trails in the area but these are not part of the bikepark. The park
has mapped out a couple of routes, setting out from the bikepark area,
but both are longer tours in the region of 60 km. Guided riders on
trails to suit your ability are available and can be booked in the bike
shop.
