2) Frognersteren
The trails at Frognersetern are just minutes on the tram from the capital, Oslo, making this a unique and interesting weekend break or a great riding stop en route to the country's biggest bike park in Hafjell, a further 2 hour drive.
Great easy access location, makes a good city and riding weekend break, (easy to combine with a trip to Hafjell). For the uplift, take the Tram from Majorstua to Frognerseteren, ride down the trails to Midstuen tram staion and take the tram back up again. Rider built trails with the joy of a night in Oslo on your doorstep!

There are not may capital cities that offer downhill riding a few minutes from the centre. This is no bikepark though, the trails here are all built by the local freeriders who have created a strong riding scene in their city. Many of the trails follow or use parts of Cross-Country ski tracks, and while they are not steep, they are good fun with a Downhill/Freeride bike. Most trails are pretty technical with a lot of roots and stones. The lower slopes are more earthy and loose with berms, jumps and northshore elements.
DOWNHILL
The
Downhill here is fair. There is not a great deal of hill to play with
and only so many runs but its a good ride for the weekend and to get
some runs under your belt. The trails have plenty of features but, as
they are not very steep, you will need to work quite hard to keep your
speed.
FREERIDE
The
local riders have built different stunts and features into their trails
with jumps, berms and drops, as well as some northshore elements.
Around Frognerseteren you can also find some dirt jump starts and the
street riding in Oslo is pretty good with the added bonus of no
security guards or police chasing you away. There are a few good
skateparks around the city as well, so if you bring your hardtail
there will be loads to keep you busy.
CROSS-COUNTRY
There
is some pretty good Cross Country riding around Frognerseteren and it
is possible to finish your ride right in the centre by heading downhill. In addition, there are countless Cross Country ski tracks to ride and many narrow single track lines.
Don't miss the Frognerseteren Freeride Festival each year around May/June. The perfect way to sample the trails and taste the local scene

As this is not a resort, there is no website for the trails. The best place for information is www.utfor.com (the site is in Norwegian but if you create yourself a user and post a thread asking for advice the members will help out, (the site will soon be available in English). The tram network runs 0800 - 2400.
