2) Malaga
The best thing to come out of the development of the Costa del Sol is the fact they built a gondola! Now open to keen bike riders wanting to get the most out of the year round sunshine.
Amongst the many British tourists, Malaga is, in terms of both temperature and popularity, one of the hottest places to ride a bike.

Being such a dry climate, the trails around the Costa de Sol are mostly dusty, sandy and rock infested, even with some rain, nothing really changes. This predictable terrain is part of the attraction to teams and individual Downhill racers coming here to train and test equipment. The teleferico in Benalmadena and a guiding/shuttle service are means of accessing the trails. There is endless amounts of fantastic riding in all year round sunshine.
DOWNHILL
A
thriving scene of locals and travellers has developed a huge amount of
Downhill tracks, spreading from the mountain east of Malaga all the way
down the Costa as far as the racetracks in Estepona.
The teleferico itself has three superb runs that are easily accessible,
but to ride the best of the Costs a guide and shuttle service is needed.
FREERIDE
The teleferico hill has it's own take on a Freeride park - a long succession of doubles and tables.
In Benalmadena Pueblo there is a huge area devoted to local mountain
bikers with trails-style jumps, drops and a huge wooded wallride. It is a little hard to find, so you may need to ask a local.
Easy tracks are hard to come by with all the rocks floating around. Behind the city of Malaga there are serveral easier tracks with hardpack soil and lots of fun jumps and berms. The Montes de Malage hide some secret tracks that are deadly to all but the most experienced riders.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Benalmadena
and the Costa do not have any specific Cross Country trails, but head
inland to the reserves of El Chorro or Siera de las Nieves and you will
find some superb scenery, traditional villages and lush singletrack
aplenty.
