Switzerland

10) Morgins - Portes du Soleil

Morgins is a quiet mountain village on the Swiss/French border nestled in the valley between mountains with an expanse of forest and green Alpine meadows.

It is a pretty village and one to unwind and relax in and also enables you to access all of the great trails in the region.  The hills of Morgins itself do not feature as many purpose built trails, but Morgins is close to Chatel, Champoussin and Champery.  Morgins is a charming small Swiss town with good links to Chatel and the rest of the Portes du Soleil.

Nearest airport: Geneva just over 1hr

Morgin is a small and quiet town with some cracking trails and is a great peaceful base from which to ride out onto the Portes du Soleil trails. The one chairlift in the town gives access to Morgins trails and also to head out to Champoussin and Les Crosets.  It is also just a short spin across the border to Chatel in France.

DOWNHILL
The two routes down of the hill in Morgins are super fun.  One a classic Downhill race style course with a mix of fast sections and tighter wooded roots sections and bus stops, the other trail labelled the northshore or freeride trail, is a lot steeper and will have your brakes glowing by the time you reach the bottom.

FREERIDE
The Freeride trails are essentially steep downhill routes with some wooden jumps and drops built along their length.  There are different options of varying difficulty as you head down the hill but the sheer steepness of the route means this is only really for riders with a reasonable level of skill.

CROSS-COUNTRY
There are some great Cross Country trails on this side of the Portes de Soleil region. raking the lift up out of Morgins allows you to spin around to Champoussin, Les Crosets and Champery and ultimately you can ride the whole loop over to France in either direction, depending on whether you head first to France and Chatel or over to Champoussin.
