2) Champery - Portes du Soleil

Home to the steepest and toughest World Cup competition ever - Champery returns to the World Cup circuit in 2010. Champéry is developing all the time and makes a good place to base yourself for all disciplines.

The resort sits in the valley bottom with the impressive Dents du Midi (middel teeth) mountain range overlooking the town.  The riding area is on the mountain opposite where you take the cablecar from the centre of town - you can also access Les Crosets, Champoussin & Le Portes du Soleil

Nearest airport: Geneva (approx 1.5 hrs).

What does Champery have to offer?

 Chairlift  YES
 Connected to  Portes du Soleil

There is a cablecar and 3 chairs in the immediate area, these being part of the 24 lifts open in the Portes du Soleil region.  Champéry is set in impressive surroundings.  The trails riding can be tough and the downhills require a certain amount of basic skills.

DOWNHILL
Home to the most technical, steep and scary World Cup track, (the track where Sam HIll defied belief by riding the life out of his Iron Horse Sunday in torrential rain).   This track should only be taken on by experts!!  Over the back of the mountain in Les Crosets valley, the long Grand Conche descent and the Les Crosets 2 gentler descent.  As with the rest of the Portes du Soleil, you can explore out to the trails at Morgins and Chatel.

Les Crosets 2 is the easiest of descents in the immediate area, with long sweeping corners, and can be ridden steady, allowing you to build up to full pace runs.  For a more difficult challenge, bash out the runs on the Grand Conche, a big track with high speeds and big holes, great fun for the racers.

FREERIDE
Keep checking the Champery website... there are loads of areas being developed

CROSS_COUNTRY
There is some truly picturernbook singletrack around Champéry.  From flowing curves in mountain pastures to testing ridge runs, there is something to test the most advanced riders in this valley.  Riders prepared to hike as well as bike can open up even longer trails in the hidden corners of the valley which have remained all but untouched.
